The Freedom of Information Act 2000 gives the public the right of access to all types of recorded information held by public authorities, and also sets out exemptions from that right.

The aim of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 is to promote openness in the public sector which includes government departments such as Cafcass Cymru. The act helps the public to get a better understanding of how public authorities carry out their duties, why they make their decisions and how they spend their money.
