The report reviews the options for creating a 100% ‘population spine’ to facilitate analysis for detailed population sub-groups.

Particular attention is given to the issues surrounding the inclusion of Census data in to such a study. The report also examines the extent to which the use of ‘richer’ social survey data sets can be linked to such a population spine in order to create a simulated population of Wales. Much of the focus of the report is on the Census Longitudinal Studies, which for England and Wales represents a sample of 1% of the Census that is tracked over many Censuses.
