Project status: Planned
Region/county: South East - Newport City Council
Start date: March 2015
End date: 2018
Cost: £13.7m
Design and Build contractors: Costain/Arup

We will register this project with the Considerate Constructors Scheme (external link) before construction begins.

Why we are doing it

We aim to increase the amount of traffic that can travel through these roundabouts, and so reduce delays on the M4, A48, A467 and the SDR. We also want to encourage more traffic to use the SDR. These improvements should also improve safety on these junctions.

The plan

Tredegar Park roundabout

The current plan is to enlarge and fully signalise the roundabout to the south. We also propose to build a route for traffic through the roundabout rather than round it.

Bassaleg roundabout

We will increase the capacity of the existing roundabout and provide full traffic signal control.

SDR Pont Ebbw roundabout

We currently plan to keep this roundabout mostly the same, but provide a road through the roundabout joining up the A48 SDR without needing to go around the roundabout. We would alter the existing traffic signals as a result of this.
