Mark Southgate is Director of Major Applications and Plans at the Inspectorate with responsibility for the casework administration of major applications under the national infrastructure regime (2008 Planning Act), local plans and the proposed measures for major planning applications under the Growth and Infrastructure Bill, where local authorities have been designated as poorly performing and developers opt to apply direct to the Planning Inspectorate.

He is a chartered town planner with over 20 years’ experience in local government, nongovernmental organisations and government agencies as well as the Civil Service.
