Professor Tim Jones

Provost and Vice-Principal, University of Birmingham

Since September 2016, Tim Jones has been Provost and Vice-Principal of the University of Birmingham. Prior to that he was a Professor of Chemistry at the University of Warwick. His research is focused on the surface and thin film properties of a wide variety of advanced electronic materials, with applications in areas such as photovoltaics. He has published over 300 papers, has an h-index of 50 and has graduated 50 PhD students. Tim also undertook a number of senior leadership roles at Warwick. He was Acting Provost in 2016 and before that he was Pro Vice-Chancellor for Science, Engineering and Medicine (2013-15), Pro Vice-Chancellor for Research, Knowledge Transfer and Business Engagement (2011-13) and Chair of the Faculty of Science (2010-11). He was also the institutional lead for Warwick’s very successful submission to REF 2014 and a Director of the Alan Turing Institute, based at the British Library. Tim is currently a member of Council at the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC).
