Citizenship award 2019 winner

Cardiff Street Pastors is an initiative by local churches in the Cardiff area. Trained volunteers patrol Cardiff city centre, between 10pm and 4am on Friday and Saturday nights to help those in need. They work together with the police, Cardiff County Council, University of Wales, Cardiff and Vale Health Board and local businesses.

Cardiff Street Pastors began in November 2008 with a team of 18 street pastors. Since then, they’ve been on the streets of Cardiff city centre every weekend; listening, caring and helping. They now have a team of more than 60 street pastors from 25 churches. They have given thousands of hours of service to Cardiff’s night-time economy.

It is part of a larger national initiative run by a charity called the Ascension Trust. Street Pastors nationally was launched in Lambeth in 2003 and is now in hundreds of towns and cities across the UK.
