Citizenship award 2014 winner

Yaina SamuelsYaina has overcome heroin addiction to become a role model for others. She founded Nu-Hi Ltd, a social enterprise company providing substance misuse education and training workshops for all in Cardiff. Its vision is to educate, inform and empower individuals, families and communities to manage issues relating to substance misuse.

Yaina’s organisation uses the valuable skills, knowledge and experience of former and recovering drug users. Revenue generated from training is used to recruit and train volunteers to assist with all aspects of the business. Yaina runs Nu-Hi but does not take a wage.

She works as a support officer in the evenings and runs Nu-Hi during the day. She keeps an office so that volunteers feel a sense of community.

Yaina is passionate about raising awareness of substance misuse in Wales and in Africa.
